Ma ka Hana Ka Ike - In working one learns

These past few weeks I have been photographing the Ma Ka Hana ka ike boys at work. Ma ka Hana is a non profit organization that's building has enriched the Hana community in many ways over the years. This winter they are building a new home for a Hana family whose house recently burned down. I am working on a multimedia projects, that should be finished in the next month.

Water Rescue

 Last time I was on the North Shore a man went missing at Sunset Beach. His surfboard washed up on shore but he was nowhere to be found. The Sunset and Honolulu firemen searched for him for the required 3 days. This is the first day.

Apple Bananas

These amazing bananas are one of my favorite things to come home to. In smoothies, dried, banana pancakes -  they are delicious. These caught my eye just after the morning rain.

Learning

Hana kids learning about Limu. Limu is the Hawaiian word for Seaweed.

Art Salvagers

Waking up in Nahiku, raindrops linger from the night before, and sound of the river is constant and rhythmic. A few friends and I decided to visit an old studio across the bridge. We walked up the dilapidated steps and into the musty room. There were paintings amongst the vine and spider web inhibited walls being. Some were finished, others were the bare bones of art. We rescued a few to bring back to the house of the painter where my friend Anna is living for now. 

Keiki: Hawaiian for kids

These are the Hana Kids. They surf, they play, and they stand around looking handsome as can be. Their parent's are some of the most down to earth people around, so they are bound to be as well. 

I was one of them, so I hope that holds true.
